Reviews & Discussion

Rated 4/5
Review by ledjfab Dec 12, 2005 (edited over 6 years ago)
"A Box Of Dreams" is the biggest collection of songs ever released by Enya. Not an integral: there are a couple of tracks missing, most of them from Enya's first album "The Celts" - "To Go Beyond I & II", "Fairytale", "Epona", "Triad", "Bard Dance", "Dan Y Dwr". Also not included are "Storms In Africa II" from "Watermark", "How Can I Keep From Singing" from "Shepherd Moons", and "Once You Had Gold" from "The Memory Of Trees". The absence of these tracks are conpensated with the inclusion of rare B-Sides such as "Eclipse" or "Morning Glory".
The good things to be said: The music is what you could expect from Enya: new age with a Celtic touch. Very calm. Very moody. The first CD is mainly composed of her greatest hits, while the two others are composed of less known tracks which are nonetheless very strong in general ("La Soñadora", "Evening Falls" for example). The "box" in itself is beautiful and the booklet is fantastic, but unfortunately, the lyrics are not included.
Of course, this anthology is very strong and I gave it a 4/5. The only annoying thing is that Enya will probably never change much of her sound (her new album sounds exactly like any other she'd done before), and after a while, there is a sense of repetition ("On My Way Home" sounds like a cover of "Orinoco Flow" for example). It's also sad to see that tracks like "Aldebaran", a beautiful electronic sequence, didn't inspire other similar works since.
