Another corker of a release from Equinox and the Subtle Audio stable!
"Retroism (Where Are You?)" does exactly what it says on the tin with it's mellowed-out 'Golden-Era' jungle vibes and rolling 'Amen' break. Before long, however, the drums are subjected to some subtle editing, reminiscent of Blu Mar Ten's "Futureproof" on GLR. Also, look out for the cheeky Gwen Guthrie sample taken from "Seventh Heaven" (which, co-incidentally, is where you'll be by the end of this track!)
The inclusion of "Roy Ting" on the flip came about as the intended b side "Far Away" would not master to an acceptable quality for release. With "Roy Ting" Equinox takes another rare and obscure drum break and proceeds to chop and slice it Seven Ways From Sunday to breath-taking effect! Just imagine the late, great Buddy Rich doing his thing amid some seriously heavy sub bass and you've got a pretty good idea of what this track is all about.
