referencing Savage, LP, Album, SFL1 0163

Key tracks, (B1) I Need A Man & (B5) I Need You, defined the Eurythmics' ability to capture the X-generation's penchant for cynical undercutting, through irony, to counter the dross of the world of pop music and dependency-love-songs of the excessively flamboyant and often cheesey 1980s. Despite the more enduring familiarity of the radio-friendly (A4) You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart on this album, it is these two tracks that successfully captured the cool ice of the Annie Lennox-Dave Stewart dynamism that fascinated a pop music world starting to trend into a post-feminist era. Along with this was also the trend against the hyper-production involved in stadium rock music, towards the rise of minimalism by paring-it-back (like Nirvana's Unplugged). [This 'stripped-back' approach attained critical acclaim that many other contemporary, big-time artist's would resort to (like INXS, Prince, David Bowie, Bob Dylan), evident in their habit of the day to return to playing small gig venues at a whim, stripped back/pared back to the rawness of their respective and genuine skill-sets]. It is nicely evident already here, in these two songs.
