Reviews & Discussion

The ever-prolific Fila Brazillia, known for their remixes as much for their own tracks, offer us Brazilification, a collection of their remixes. And they have definitely skimmed off the top here: these tracks are gorgeous. Disc 1 starts off with Radiohead sounding slightly less paranoid with “Climbing Up the Walls” and moves to their unreleased mix of Moloko’s “Lotus Eaters.” The tracks blend into one another, not as much mixed as segued. And the mood is consistently mellow, even through the remix of Mellow’s “Mellow,” and culminating in the bleep-funk of the Orb’s “Toxygene.” On Disc 2, Simple Minds get their “Themes from Great Cities,” turned into a suite of easygoing breaks, while Robin Jones has “Royal Rumba” turned up a notch. They transform The Egg’s “Bend” into a driving funk, while their sublime mix of “Cottonwool” (by Lamb) feels soft as silk. This is the collection for you if you don’t feel like spending hundreds of dollars tracking down the individual singles.
