Flare gets the full remix treatment on _Re-Grip_, an album that showcases the width and breadth of Japanese techno producers, from the abstract noise of Eye Yamataka's "Turbinates" to Keigo Oyamada’s more rock-influenced take of "Cycling Round." Rei Harakami gives "Curved Flow" a smooth makeover, while "Clinch" gets a harder take on the beats, thanks to Co-Fusion. The slightly off-rhythm tones of Akio Milanpaak’s "Parts & Wholes" keeps the listener guessing, while Tsutchie offers a trip-hop inspired mix of "Transition.” Interestingly enough, the intro to Dr. Sheepman’s mix of "Sweet Katharsis" is the same sample that kicks off The Cinematic Orchestra’s magnum opus, "All That You Give" -- although "Sweet Katharsis" wanders off into strange electronic territory. A mixed bag, as most remix compilations are.
