Reviews & Discussion

Review by Kestulencija Aug 18, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
It's even hard for me to explain how good this album is! You can hear everything from classic to breakcore in this album. Every track is strong and beautiful. The Flashbulb is such creative artist... it's shame he is underrated... this album is a masterpiece. For me, it's the best album of 2005 ;)

This album left me breathless, Benn Jordan is a true musician, in every sense of the word. This album, while encompassing a wide range of styles (from soft rock to drum n bass to jazz to classical to noise) manages to retain a very nice flow. "Kirlian Selections" feels like it is telling a story, what that story is, is completely up to the listener. For me it will always remind me of that first gorgeous day after winter, when I could go outside and just relax completely. It was the day I got this album.

I can't really name all the standouts because of the many genres incorporated into this album, but "Passage D" "Binedump" "Autumn Insomnia Session" "Kirlian Choices" and "Miles and Miles" jump to mind... this album has a very cinematic sound though, and is best in effect when listened to from start to finish. As I write this the beautiful strings of "Kirlian Changes" are playing away...

There aren't really any albums out there that I can compare this one to, except for (somewhat) Squarepusher's "Ultravisitor" and Aphex Twin's "DruQks"... leaning more towards Squarepusher's drill 'n' bass and jazz stuff if anything, but "Kirlian Selections" is still a completely different thing on it's own....

Bottom line, a top notch, sublime release, beautiful in many ways, provoking many different feelings and images in your mind, a total musical journey. If Sublight Records continues releasing albums of this calibre, it will be very well known very quickly.

ESSENTIAL
