No album in this trendy spacey nu-kraut/nu-disco/balearica genre has actually topped that album, not the Norwegian's majestic fjord disco, not Quiet Village's luxurious sample-balearica and not even any of DFA's awesome artists has come close to it.
Until now...
Fontän, another electroish, popish, balearica'ish duo from Gothenburg (we already have The Tough Alliance, The Embassy, Studio, Boat Club, The Crêpes, Lake Heartbeat etc.), released this masterpiece earlier this fall and, after I'd heard "Early morning" on the net before and their debut album, I was nerdy enough to buy it on the release date.
But this is far, far from their experimental, almost post rocky debut. This is slick and extremely well produced, and you can really see that these guys (under supervision of Rasmus Hägg) had matured a lot musically, and found a winning direction. Just like most of Information's releases this is pretty hard to define, luckily. It has lots of kraut- and balearica-elements, just like Studio. Let's just say it sounds a lot like Studio, but still not. They have the same references but different minds, different backgrounds.
As I mentioned before, the production is absolutely top notch, and the filtered guitar solo's are definately worth a mention, really psychedelic!
So here's what you should do: Buy this album, rent a beach house somewhere in the mediterranean and bring your closest friends and the best speakers you can afford. Then eat, drink or smoke something mind-expanding before playing this album for sunset (or sunrise)...
The only thing you could do after a session like that is to thank whoever created all this beauty, for ALL senses, in the world. :)
