Reviews & Discussion

Well what can you say. This record is pretty untouchable on every point. Every single track is indeed a winner, and all 4 tracks displays different variation. Hypnodelic is my favourite, and it is deep but yet very powerful track straight out of the New York underground. The screaming vocals is shivering and the beats have a fantastic drive. 'Mindspeak' is more tech-house territory and 'Moov' is right up stunning. The reversed and looped percussions and twinkeling pads send you way into a ambient and mindblowing journey. 'The edge of time' is also a diffrent track more into african rhythms. The whole EP is a trip into time and space from african beats to modern electronic sounds. There is no excuse for you as a deep house fan to NOT own this.

One of THE ultimate EP's for any discerning house music lover. All bases covered. Around the time this came out, the word was that FK was sick of record labels continually churning out releases with no care for quality or long-termism. This was quite a statement for Wave, still in its infancy, and it still stands the test of time. You can listen to this EP now or play it anywhere and it still sounds amazing and fresh. Hypnodelic is a masterpiece of deep house. Mindspeak (a discarded remix for LFO if I remember) would be classed as hard house before the genre went up a different, noisier road. As stated in the other reviews, Edge of Time somehow fuses an amazing dub bassline and world music references to create something from another planet. Listen to Moov and it's easy to see how and why FK later hooked up with Derrick May as the Cosmic Twins - here in a shorter version that was later released in its full glory. When you consider that this 12” cost £6, compared to the majority of ‘house’ releases coming out now, its quite a scary thought - and just shows that things haven’t changed since FK first voiced his concerns about disposable music nearly 15 years ago. This is house music for grown-ups.

Every track on the EP is top notch. Francois really does possess the x-factor. 'Edge of Time' somehow manages to fuse deep dub disco with an african vibe and 'Moov' is perhaps the greatest piece of ambience ever created. Respect always to the man.
