Moody future jazz, with an emphasis on the jazz. Frederic Galliano’s Espaces Baroque artfully blends jazz with electronics and hip-hop rhythms, with some stunning results. “Plis Infinis No. 1” adds instruments and continues to build on a simple theme, with a cumulative effect. “Plus Infinis No. 2” is much more frenetic, with woodwinds, horns and a low thrumming coursing through the track, while “Plis Infinis No. 3” is languorous, with a sad vocal sample floating atop the track. “Nomades Monades” is a long track that drifts along in a jazzy haze, changing gears halfway through to become more stripped down. “Multiples Un” is a beautifully sweet, like a serenade on a summer’s evening. This Japanese edition also includes several remixes; the one unique to this CD is the Silent Poets’ take on “Plis Infinis No. 1,” which emphasizes a heavy beat and loops the horn. Altogether, a masterful album.
