Funki Porcini - Hed Phone Sex

I'd have to say that this is definitely one of the most essential downtempo/trip hop releases of the 90's. Hed Phone Sex is an awesomely strange mix of warmth, melody, humor and melancholy. Though this is probably his most accessible release in my opinion, it still has that bizarre uniqueness that sets Funki Porcini apart from the rest of the field. This album seriously put a much-appreciated gentle smile on my brain back in 1995 that has fortunately never left.

One of the records at the beginning of the electronic music revolution determined my awareness towards music. Brilliant, atmospheric, psychedelic. It naturally balances between jazz, dub, trip-hop, and spoken-word-sample art. Should be an object proposed to every wanna-be downtempo artist.

The fusion of jazz cuts and occasional spurts of b-boy drums breaks in 'King Ashabanapal'.Plus many others including the awesome 'Long Road', a song that defines tranqulity, this is worth a listen even just for the comedy of 'A word of Vice'.

"Long Road" (C3) - a legend. The psychodelic deepness of the spoken words is singularely in its style. The whole album is great too.
