Reviews & Discussion

Review by jdcapshew Oct 30, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
The ouput from FAX has considerably slowed from the furiously productive mid 90's, and as that has happened, the quality of the music has improved dramatically. It seems that most of the best projects lately have been from FAX mainman, Pete Namlook, partnering with the head of Source Records, David Moufang. But then, along comes the fascinating "Gate Zero", which I have played 5 times in 48 hours. This is gorgeous, intricately composed ambient downtempo, with some incredible piano and saxophone passages. It's organic sounding with crystal clear production. It's melodic and highly chilled, avoiding the cliches of most of the other pedestrian downtempo releases I've heard. Highly recommended.
