While nothing will come close to Be Be & Ce Ce Winans' cover of the Staple Singers classic -- after all they had help from Mavis herself on that one -- save for the original version, General Public did an incredibly good cover of the song... Especially given their general style wasn't anything even close to the style that the Staple Singers originally recorded "Take" in. Nevertheless, GP applied their trademark sound to the song without ever disrespecting the original vibe and pulled off something most artists covering other artists work never seem to be able to do: retain credibility with their core following whiler gaining respect from the fans of the original version, which ultimately makes "I'll Take You There" as much a General Public song as it is a Staples Singers song.
