Gentle People, The ‎– Simply Faboo

Simply Faboo, the second album from the Gentle People is -- if you can believe it -- even more campy than their first. “Shopping World,” a paean to consumerism, whirls itself silly. The tracks here are less spacey than on Soundtracks for Living, but the mellow vibe is still in full force. Indeed, “Mr. Whisky” harkens back to French pop more than it does lounge music, but my favorite track, the dreamy “Groovin’ With You” is a piece of lounge perfection. Even though they craft actual songs on this album (“Hungover,” “Superstar”), the album overall isn’t as compelling as their earlier work. Sure, “Gentle People are Love” is a fun nu-disco track, but it isn’t startling. “Parfum,” which goes back to their brilliant lounge work, is startling. Overall, though, it still deserves a place in your collection. Visit the shopping world soon.
