Goldfrapp ‎– Supernature

Does anyone else seem to have a lot of surface noise on their copy? Mine compared to Head First is so crackly. It's a shame because I love this album, If anyone can tell me it's just my copy I'll invest in another copy :-)

Goldfrapp's third album, SUPERNATURE, follows close to their second, BLACK CHERRY. Perhaps too closely. Whereas the change from their first to second albums was startling, SUPERNATURE seems to continue BLACK CHERRY's glitzy, glam formula. "Ooh La La" and "Number 1," especially seemed destined for the top of the pop charts, while "Ride a White Horse" comes directly from the land of disco balls. The songs are definitely agreeable, from the pleasant "Fly Me Away" to the peppy "Koko." There's not a clunker on here -- though "Time Out From the World" sounds too reminiscent of the superior "Pilots" off FELT MOUNTAIN. But Goldfrapp's musicianship remains undiminished, even when they go for a more straightforward pop sound. "You Never Know" pushes up the dynamics on the off-beat for musical pulsation. The old-time saloon piano on "Satin Chic" is a smile-inducing addition that belies a careful consideration of tonal quality. And the slow, aquatic "Let It Take You," one of the strongest tracks, offers some depth to the album's surface, enhanced, as always by Alison Goldfrapp's dreamy vocals. Personally, I would have liked to have seen Goldfrapp push themselves in another new direction, but even if they repeat themselves on SUPERNATURE, it works and works well.
