"Mother" is a magnificent. What Goldie did was to accept no compromise and out of it came a 60 minute epic of full orchestral movements into-woven with rhythmic drum patterns. I love it, I really do. I have no truck with those that say it's "bombastic"...I appluad Goldie for his bravery in attmepting something so ambitous and pulling it off. Those that say it's "boring" or "not D&B" are to narrow-minded and impatient to appreciate the track.
It the greatest piece of D&B I've ever heard.

In my opinion "Mother" is a masterpiece, I absolutely adore that track. But Saturnz Return doesn't work as an album overall because it's too messy, the harder/faster tracks like "Temper Temper" and "Demonz" just doesn't sit well together with the downtempo stuff included. Goldie should have done what System 7 did, put out one "Fire" and one "Water" album.

Nice album here. "Digital" is a great tune, with KRS flowin to some rugged beats and minimal (but effective) basslines.
"Temper Temper" is a dope tune as well. Introduces aspects of rock music incorporated with drum and bass.
"Crystal Clear" has great vocals that carry you through the song peacefully. Jazzy pianos, funky basslines etc...
"Letteroffate" is very different from the usual dnb you hear. There is no beat in this tune. Atmospheric pads suck you in, followed by gentle male vocals and piano. Kick ass tune to relax and smoke a spliff to.
All around, quality production from Goldie. Each record comes in its own jacket. Very nice and thick pressing as well. Don't sleep on this one. A must for any collection.

Many people write this disc off, but I was amazed the first time I heard it. I don't pretend to understand it, but I listened to it until I knew it inside and out, down to how long the pause was between "Truth" and "Dream Within", and only then did I allow myself to make up my mind whether I like it -- and it turned into one of my very favorite records. Especially "Truth", "Dragonfly", and the 2nd movement of "Mother."

Some of this was recorded in a studio in my home town - Stevenage, Herts.
The first disc is not totally convincing but you must admire Goldie's efforts to produce such a monumental piece. The second half of Mother moves effortlessly from swathes of classical music into intricate D+B breaks an and back again.
Demonz is my favourite on the seconds disc.

i found this album to be really refreshing. i expected to get typical late-90's D&B, that it was hard to put a time-stamp on, or even discover D&B elements at times.

in terms of experimentalism, it reminds me somewhat of amon tobin, the way goldie clearly choses to ignore a lot of conventions. yes, some tracks are kind of hard to listen to, but i still kept fascinated by the music, wondering how the tracks would evolve.

in these days when most of the 'breakbeats' that are produced sound pretty much like the same old boring shit, this was definitely a welcome change to me. silly i didn't notice the album earlier!

the higher they climb the harder they fall. the 2nd Goldie-album turned out to be disappointing. the 60-minute-track "mother" is bombastic and boring, it seems that Goldie has over-estimated himself and tried to make a monument of himself and failed. however, the 2nd cd has some good tracks, but they are not really necessary. there's better stuff out there.
