Reviews & Discussion

This is an album thats rather hard to review. Corduroy Road is 13 tracks of what might be called modern classical. Piano is the main sound here, but on a couple of tracks we can here an acoustic guitar ever so slightly in the background. As well as an eerie electronic rumble at the end of "Yamase". If you enjoy the classical elements of Helios, then you should grab this one up. Stand outs for me are the unsettling sound in "Downward To Darkness On Extended Wings" and the overwhelming depression found in "Anomolie Loop". An album to be listened to in a quiet setting for sure.

Corduroy Road could be imagined as the soft folds of fabric wraping around your brain like a nice afternoon nap taking on subtle forms of memory and melody in a very relaxing way. Upon first listening, I had no idea how calming this music might be and it promptly put me to sleep. Definitely a great piece of music to have around, when the need to seriously chill-out arises.

Minimal indeed. When I first heard this album I skimmed it, a mistake I am posting here to make sure that nobody else makes... This album is meant to be enjoyed as a whole, and I don't think there is a more relaxing album out there. Like i said though, minimal, always there for your most reflective moments, tracks drift into one another when you are relaxing and I have yet to have a very concentrated listening of this CD... but I believe that defeats the point. Corduroy Road is a mental journey, sit looking out your back window and imagine anything is out there, just sit and think. And it's perfect at what it does.

Don't skim it, put it on when you have something to think about, this isn't music to think about, it's music to think TO.
