A beautiful rework of a very nice Tango project by Gotan Project. Pepe proves he has still got it witn an absolutely original and incredible remix. The intergrity of the Tango style is intact with the accordian like sound still prominent but with Pepe's fantastic drum programming and a track that builds and builds with that wicked slightly acid style bassline that kicks like a mule but totally satisfy's. Pepe's killing it here.

I wanna clear some things so people don't get the wrong information.
First... the "rare" instrument you hear on this track is not a harmonica, it's a "bandoneon". A widely used instrument amongst Tango performers (similar to the accordion).
And second... the music played by this instrument isn't french, since we are referring to Tango. A classic Argentine music, born about 130 years ago.
The band is french, but not the style. The band works with a few argentine musicians residing in France (vocals in most tracks, bandoneons, cellos, etc..). They also sample some work from one the greatest Tango musicians ever: Astor Piazzolla (may be you've heard more of Carlos Gardel).
Anyhow... something really interesting and original.

The Gotan Project are hot, hot, hot, and this remix EP (both of the Santa Maria singles put together on this promo) proves it. Peter Kruder takes a soft approach to “Triptico” and make it an extended house trip, with some tinkling synths dangling across the top. Tom Middleton, on the other hand, goes for a deeper house vibe on “Santa Maria” and emerges with fantasic results. The two mixes by the Antipop Consortium, however, aren’t very good at all, which brings down the overall quality, but I think that Peter Kruder and Tom Middleton do more than their share of making this EP worthwhile.

Pepes 'wider' remix is definetly wider in a sense of combinig the impossible. dark kickin funk bass, slightly broken disco kick and a live played french harmonica. Harmonica has a very little echo on it, what prooves that Pepe has more guts then the other nu jazz purists.
