The first track I heard from Green House Effect was under his alias Sandman in 1997. It was on the TIP Singles compilation that I heard the marvellous “Starfinder” and since then I always dug his tracks. His albums “Witchcraft” and “Psycho Toons” released in 1998 and 2000 respectively are amongst my favourite albums ever and I consider them as another two pinnacles and at the same two turning points in the history of Goa-trance.

While the alias Green House Effect was already used by him between 1995 / 96 for a 12” on the legendary Symbiosis Records and for some Israeli compilation appearance Izik Levy returns in early 2001 with this alias for another album. My expectations for Global Warming weren’t high, and in fact, I was right. As soon as this album kicks in, one will immediately feel the influence that mainstream “Trance” and the huge worldwide success at the turn of the millennium had also on this album. Even worse when one scrolls his eyes down at the bottom of the tracklist and sees a track aptly tagged as “Club Mix”. Things start speaking for themselves.

So overall, is this album a disappointment ? For me yes. After hearing the previous albums and singles from when “Trance was good” (if I may use this expression) an inevitable great disappointment it is. Maybe had I never been deep into Goa or was just a casual mainstream Trance lover I may have liked “Global Warming” as a “trance album” and full-stop. After all being from Sandman (oops…Green House Effect ) this album has some moments too and you can’t beat production.
