Reviews & Discussion

Rated 3/5

This was the first thing I'd ever picked up by Groove Armada and would recommend it as a good first impression for anyone interested in checking them out. Some tracks are hits (you can't help but smile when you hear 'Superstylin'' and 'Fogma' is a decent club track for any occasion) and some are misses - I could surely have lived without ever having heard 'Little By Little' which sounds more like a Randy Newman song... definitely out of place in the rest of the mix. This cd is best listened to all the way through on a long night. You may find yourself zoning out or skipping a couple tracks here and there but, overall, the vibes are good and it keeps you moving.

The third full-length from Groove Armada, Goodbye Country (Hello Nightclub), starts off with “Suntoucher,” a trip-hop track that emphasizes more hip-hop, and it indicates the direction of the album as a whole. “Superstylin’” has a ragga chant over a nice house beat, and “Little By Little” goes full-on R&B. “Fogma” returns us to the nightclub with some wiggle house. But those who fear that the duo have lost their downtempo touch need turn no further than “Lazy Moon” to show that they still have it. “Edge Hill” has a nice heavy bass and some soaring strings for a dreamy afternoon picnic. Overall, though, this album feels more rushed than their pervious ones, with quality suffering a little bit -- but it’s still worthwhile.
