I feel very lucky to once again be journeying into Narnia, and to be going on that trip with old friends. This is the fifth score I've done with Harry and one might think it would be routine for us both by now, perhaps that is why we're so keen to challenge each other further.
This time around Narnia is a different world. The bright, hopeful world of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe has been oppressed by the Telmarines for hundreds of years, leaving a dark, fearful land. It is into this world that the Pevensies return to help Prince Caspian bring peace again to Narnia.
Rather than the linear story of the previous film, Prince Caspian weaves three plot lines, culminating with a battle to save Narnia.
The music for Prince Caspian had to support a more epic, action-filled and multifaceted film than the last. It needed to soar from the sweeping locations of New Zealand, Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic back down to the intimacy and nostalgia of a child rediscovering a world she thought was lost forever.
For Prince Caspian, Harry drew not only on the beloved themes ofThe Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but also developed original, sympathetic themes for Caspian and the Telmarines. Harry has threaded these themes together with the same beauty and originality as he has woven all the notes that form his wonderful scores.
