Wow,what to say about this? This along with Planet Rock,it is one of the cornerstones of ALL electronic music.Even today nearly 30 years after it's release it sounds futuristic and seriously funky.Massive beats and heartbreaking strings collide to create a track so funky and ethereal that as well as just dancing you can just close your eyes and see all sorts of magical images. This tune is as great as any tune from any genre,EVER.

I was 11 years old in 1983, and this tune came along and changed my world! Without a doubt it is THE most important dance record EVER made! It still to this very day sounds so fresh that you can drop it into almost any DJ set and it will tear the place up! I was a vinyl addict after I scored a copy of this, and that trip to a record store in London (I lived in deepest Essex) without my parents knowing and getting grounded for a month was so worth it! Still a vinyl addict and all due to that amazing feeling of holding this record and opening the shrinkwrap! If you dont own this, you must buy it NOW!

This is without exception THEE badest tune on the planet ever, the most hardest, kicking, brutal electro beats to date, a haunting synth line to kill your loved ones for, a bass line to melt your spine, nothing in the universe gets anywhere near to touching this tune, it is essential to own a copy, this will rock any party and always does......PERIOD. When this drops you find yourself making eye-contact with like minded people and you just nod at each other because you know what's coming.....MAYHEM!!!......God bless you Hashim for gracing us with your genius.....let us all pray that there's an afterlife so we can listen to this forevermore.....Amen.

Agree with'yall. Gotta say this song ranks #1 in my greatest hip-hop/electro cuts of all time.
The incredibly thunderous bass synth showcases how daring and innovative Hashim was, sparkling with one single song hip hop subgenres such as Miami and Electro Bass.
Thank God for Discogs, where I can still find copies of this seminal 80's tune.
By the way, there's a remix on a Cutting Records compilation that is awesome too.

No one can argue that this one single captures the soul of hip hop. I grew up wasting cardboard boxes and tearing holes in the knees of my addidas sweat pants listening to this cut. I get goosebumps whenever I hear the words "It's Tiiiime!" If you want to bring any party back in tempo just break out two of these and start cutting it up. And I have never heard a remix of this jam that has outdone the original.

With a record of this caliber, remixing it becomes a difficult task. When Aldo Marin approached Tommy Musto and myself with the proposal to remix this classic, I found myself working on my first serious remix project.
The track itself was seven years old in 1990. Of the two remixes, one was done in our studio which was Northcott.
that is the mix found with the original on the 'B'side.
I like this one because Tommy let me explore the possibilities, while he just engineered. The 'A' side cut was done at D&D recording and Aldo sat in on the mix. I think the obvious in itself made the 'A' side remix better because the engineers in D&D knew how to work that room.
Listening to that now, 15 years later, I can hear such a love for the U.K. "Summer Of Love" walking through NYC without losing its original flavor. Which is what happened to all the remixes that would follow.

Having been fortunate enough to remix this record a decade before these Y2K remixes surfaced, I know that remixing a classic that can pass the test of time can be a difficult task. On that note the Y2K remixes are just about five years old. I would say this record is a solid purchase if only for the last remix on the 'B' side. The other two were novelty items and not really anything that even resembles a remix of a classic. But that last one has nice little breaks which maybe lean on the progressive side of things, but stays true to the structure of the original.

This is one of those records where you have to say: thank God (or indeed Allah) for the re-press!
Without a doubt this song is timeless and maybe that is the reason why Rockstar Games used it in their game GTA: Vice City.
Hashim's Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) was an instant breakers anthem responsible for much worn lino, bald patches and twisted ligaments! Fat beats, ruuude bass synth and mad vocoder, who could resist! Al-Naafiysh's place was instantly assured in the Hip-Hop hall of fame....How many times have you heard those immortal lines "It's Time" and "Just Feel It" cut to oblivion on two decks?
