this cd is compiled of material composed especially for st. giga, japan, a satellite broadcast radio station that transmits ambient music 24 hours a day, whose the programming is based around current tidal movements.

Small wonder this is considered a classic - rightly so! I finally got my hands on a copy of it recently & it's mind-blowing. Acid lines, samples of naturescapes, dubby basslines, heavily processed & soaring synths; this CD has it all.
Every track on this album is fantastic, but the opener, "Energy Portal", is easily my favorite. It's a giant amongst giants, for sure. The track exudes a restrained, shimmering elegance like only the best ambient tracks can. Despite this restraint, and the incredibly intricate, subtle sample work, it manages to evoke a forceful presence that builds, layer upon layer, like a true work of art.

Kudos to Kim Cascone for this fantastic album!
