A new name from Finland most people haven`t heard about before, Highpersonic Whomen. This is Frank Further and Justin Space based in Helsinki. Here they are out with an album on Thirteen Productions. This album really surprised me! One of the absolute best progressive trance albums out there, and it keeps growing on me. A sign of quality is also that one of the tracks is out on Backroom Beats. I was very, very disappointed by this album, but then again I hardly knew what to expect. Bought the CD on pure impulse, so my only guesses were about the label. I know Thirteen mainly from the Poly61 single (which is excellent oldschool goa), but I'd heard this was more progressive.
Well, it's all just TOO progressive! To be quite honest, this is the most damn boring CD I've listened to in ages! it actually took me several days to listen though it as I was continually overwhelmed by the urge to put on something a bit more interesting. The tracks consist of endless run-on proggy beats with zero to very little variation, with useless blippy samples popping and about every now and then. No real melodies to catch the ear, just some airy plonkings here and there. Ok, some of the later tracks are not that bad; 5 to 7 at least have some kind of sensible beat, and "Clone Collective" especially tries to pose as danceable psy. I'm pretty sure I'd die of boredom if some DJ caned this during a night though; there is absolutely NO excitement, NO energy and NO tension what-so-ever.
I've the feeling the main idea behind this album seems to have been to see if it's possible to create psytrance while taking away all the good elements. If so, well, they succeded. While this CD is one big yawn from start to end for me, I guess it could have its uses as some kind of lounge or café music... Or in any other setting where you've got something else (perhaps something actually interesting!) to pay attention to.
one of the most beatiful and musical progressive psytrance release in a long while. Check it out if you don´t believe me!
The style if very familiar yet very new and fresh with lots of new ideas and consepts.
loking forward to hear some more stuff from these guys! 10/10 from me. Only one track i didn´t like 100%, so this tells just about the quality of this album.
