Not a bad showing by the producer of "Der Zehnte Juli", but not horribly inspiring overall.
There isn't much to say about "Mavadoo", a track that clips along, never quite getting anywhere. It would make a great soundtrack for the Discovery Channel.
"Fandango" is where the excitement first begins with an energetic bouncy beat and ghostly noises sneaking in (a broken Atari?). The pedestrian chord progression unfortunately tears down any expectations the beats had previously built...until the eerie synth creeps in towards the middle.
With "Lagoon", Holger finally hits full stride with some interesting minimal, bumpy drums and an electronic vibraphone playing a catchy chord progression. This track is a great example of the minimal genre that Holger does so well; a sparing few components are combined together for an engaging listen that is danceable.
"Pole" is the hidden surprise on this EP. An ongoing high stab is joined by the usual suspect (a bouncy, sharp-sounding digital synth stab that we've all heard before) and combined with a plodding bassline. At 3:30, the magic kicks in with a hollow synth arpeggiating around. Very enjoyable to the ears!
