Horchata - Biomass Necromass Remixes

This release is based on two original tracks by Horchata, Necromass and Biomass. Necromass, which made me immediately think "death metal!", is actually plant litter that sits within surface soil. It can often be found in the form of dead, decomposing plant life. Biomass are plant-derived materials, the organic byproducts of food, fiber and forestry production and an increasing source of renewable energy. Like its namesakes, these remixes of work by Horchata linger in the subterranean region. The sounds are dark and primal. The beats are gradual, creeping and hypnotic. What at first seems disturbing and reeking of decay, is also revealed to be oddly soothing and rich. Necromass/Biomass recognizes and honors the unyielding connection between life and death. New sounds and new life are generated beneath the surface.

There are two very well-known artists who share remixing duties (Twine and Mothboy) with some lesser known artists (Shadu, Pellucid, PBH, Decs and Mind of Minolta). Each remains faithful to what I feel is the overall theme of the album, an aural manifestation of the life-death cycle; an exploration of the place where death breathes life.
