Reviews & Discussion

True pioneers in every sense of the word, The Human League's contributions to this lil ol' genre known as Electronica are legendary. For starters, they are the undisputed founders of Synth-Pop and, moreso, critical figures in the "White Electro" movement at the dawn of the 80s. Even though the roots of Electro originate in Germany with you-know-who, it wasn't until The League re-sculpted the style to fit in with their pop sensibilities that the sub-genre really crossed-over to the mainstream.

'Being Boiled' is a great example of Electro in its post Kraftwerk, pre-Funk era. It was these 'ere sounds that became the blueprint for what Afrika Bambattaa and Newclus later relaunched with a new face, literally. Today, we don't think much of the plodding analogue bass line and the tinny snares that made the track what it is, but for the early 80s, this was realised science fiction for the music industry.
