A short EP from the Hefty Records trio Ilium. After a abstract rhythmic intro, PAINT BY NUMBER quickly settles into quiet post-rock. Melodic enough to be engaging ("Ochre," for instance), the short running times is both a strength and a weakness. The tracks don't overstay their welcome, but also seem underdeveloped, with most tracks shifting tempo midway through. Certainly not the worst way to spend 20 minutes of your day.
