Reviews & Discussion

Rated 3/5

As with the first volume of this series, its eclectic nature works against it as a cohesive listening experience. I never play this right through. Some tracks, such as the reggae (!) version of "Ben", the Jungle Brothers' "Great To Be Here" and the spacey synth weirdness of "Can I See You", work brilliantly; others are almost unlistenable. DJ Bobo is a particularly bad offender, but some of the Japanese remixers simply soup it all up into a techno mess (I'm looking at you, Mr. Fantastic Plastic!). Ultimately, the late 90s/early millenium vogue for completely disassembling well known tracks undoes a lot of goodwill and dates this collection poorly. Still, the final track of Electric Sheep's remix of "Can I See You" is definitely electrifying.
