Review by BUNKERHEADZ Mar 09, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
After some delay I finally got this 3 CD set delivered at my doorstep today.
Extra nice is the fact that James gave it to me as a present, a very nice thing of James to do :)

210,11 minutes of pure Chill Out extacy.
Every track is a winner and indeed like some peeps already mentioned above, why these tracks never were released before is a real mystery...

The music goes from beatless soundscapes to soundtracks of Post-Nuclear SciFi movies.

Spooky and haunting stuff, the music to me is like a book of Stephen King, mysterious, frighting, you just can't escape, it sucks you into this trip, a fantasyworld, where you are in charge, the music just shapes the landscape.

I would like to mention the artwork as well: High gloss photo paper is used for the covers and the CDr's are dark red transparant discs, absolute wicked packaging!

I'm happy I belong to the selected group of 25 people who can enjoy this trip over and over and over and over again . . . . . . . .RESPECT James Bernard!

These 3 CDr's of unreleased works are already amongst my favourite ambient music, right up there with albums I have cherished for years. Music rarely gets this good. I will constantly play this set for years. With music this deep and beautiful, it gets better with every listen. Each track explores new territory and every soundscape is a flawless work of art. And then the acid lines are some of the most expressive and diverse I have heard, but then all the sounds here are impeccably crafted.

I am absolutely astounded that work of such beauty and quality could go unreleased, but I feel so lucky to have this in my hands! It is so perfect I had to listen to each CD several times only to be captivated even more by the next. It was the best way to start the new year when I got back home and found this on the doormat. Thank you so much James Bernard!

a quality triple-disc hand numbered and signed by none other than james bernard. lush beautiful soundscapes that you can't run out and pick up at your local record shop. fresh and new sound from works coming from the mid to late nineties. true 'old skool' ambient music that will take you back to the 'real' chill rooms of the 90's. extremely limited run of these discs, distributed by the artist. don't sleep on this one.

Ahhhh! The smell of ambient in the air. Ambient is a genre that I hold onto dearly. Agreed with d3a0n3. I'm also amazed that none of these tracks saw the day of light. At least these 25 CDs will fall in the hands of passionate souls. Atmospheric, Passionate, Mysterious, Deep! Great Collection of compositions. Welcome Back!

Coming on 3 autographed and hand-numbered CDs, this collection of Unreleased Works is a sublime mixture of subtle soundscapes and languid beats.
Beatless, the first CD, comprises lush beatless ambience, really a lovely collection of tracks.
Beats, the second CD, features equally stunning ambience punctured by the beats in some cases or driven by it in others, creating a warmth to the tracks that makes it a stunning piece of music from first track to last.
Beats and Modular Experiments, the third and final CD, finishes the set of perfectly, a combination of the two previous discs ideals, neither dominant, complimenting each other superbly.
I am so glad to have got a copy and wouldn't, after only 2 listens to each disc, sell it for $1000.
How these works remained Unreleased baffles me, unless the artist was saving for lucky souls like myself to enjoy and appreciate.
I'm just glad they're released now.

This is maybe the first release that own it entirely on Discogs (;-))
The story began on the Discogs' OldSchool Lovers forum, in mid-november 2005 if I'm right, when our beloved Bunkerheadz brought M. James Bernard in, to play & discuss with other famous names, and few devoted folks.
He seemed very surprised and touched by the reverence he found there for his work (as, according to most oldschool observers, Mr Bernard truly was key in the ambient scene in early 90'), and when he told people of all those unreleased tracks he had on DAT, everyone went bersek, and I guess he had no other choice than going back digging into his files, and put up this limited edition 3xCD!
About a month later, the first copies where shipped to several different countries, with a full load of 28 ambient experiments on board!

Yes, that's what I call a nice christmas gift !
