"Reality" finds JB mostly treading water with an uninspired batch of second rate tunes and occasionally embarrassing attempts at socially conscious/relevant lyrics (the bottom of the barrel is reached with "All For One," in which a chorus of voices insists "All for one! and! one for all!"). The exceptions are the title track, "Funky President," and his surprisingly potent, funky and straight-faced workout of Chubby Checker's "The Twist" (which concludes with a voice over reminding us to treat JB like the superstar he is). Sure, the lyrics of the good originals are ridiculous (Let's get together, buy some land/grown our food just like the man/save our money, like the mob..."), but for me, "Funky President" alone has enough killer funk to buoy the whole album to 3 stars.
