A Jeff Mills classic, made with a keyboard and EPS 16 Sampler. This man is really FAST at the mixdown, and he knows the shit. Phase 4 is a remix of "Der Klang der Familie" , another early Tresor classic. The vinyl has been remastered in 2002 or 2003, sounds much better than the CD version.

Not only Waveform Transmission Vol. 1 is one of the best techno albums ever made, it's also a blueprint of everything that had to come afterwards in techno. This album has influenced tons of techno DJ's and producers. But the beauty of this album is that it will never sound dated at all. There is a lot of diversity to be found on this album yet most of the songs are pretty pumping and straight forward. My favourite track will always be Berlin, it just has everything that I like about techno because it manages to be very hypnotic and brutal at the same time. And brutal is an understatement here: rage, distortion, unpolished 303 and 909 madness and excellent breaks. The charm of the track lies in the naivety, which I really miss in today's techno. If you want to know why they call Jeff Mills "the wizard", you simply have to listen to this album.

In 1992 the cheesey rave scene was taking over the UK, or if you were lucky you found a club that was playing chicago style house music which at least had some soul. Meanwhile in a darkened room somewhere Jeff Mills was tweaking the hell out of the knobs on his drum machine. Bringing this home one day from Eastern Bloc records was revolutionary, suddenly the dance scene had a new direction. This record must have influenced countless disillusioned DJs and producers. It's a deep and industrial workout with very occasional (perhaps unintentional) melodic snippets. Like his DJ sets, its raw and honest, you know what you are getting: and if it's not a headache it's a trip through a world where the machines took over a long time ago ...

Punishing intense techno at its rawest-
nearly 20 years old but still the sound of the future, some classic tracks from the master of minimal- These tracks are what a suicide assasin robot from the planet axis is thinking.Danger_meltdown_ error
error error error-_reboot.Jeff Mills has the ability to say more with a drum beat and a sound effect than any musician alive today- listening to this album the whole way through is a brutal and dark journey-reboot Highly recommended to anyone who wants to know what techno is about intelligent _subversive and dangerous!

One of my all time favorites, and living proof of how quality surpassess the tests of time and constantly oncoming modern trends!
The opening four tracks, which basically means half of the album, move at supersonic speed, portraying agressive Detroit techno from back in the day, mercilessly rushing forward while incinerating dance floors, listeners' perception of electronic music, you name it! Jerical, Changes Of Life and Berlin are synonims for hard techno which patched up generation gaps and reunited us under a unique flag of a techno nation stronghold!
Basically, true to the form audio wizardry from one of the genre's most prominent figures hitting you hard at maximum velocity, while the brutal and unpolished sounds of these eight tracks won't leave you flat. You can hate on it, you can love it 'till you die, you can cherish or dismay in disbelief, but you won't passively listen through. It will effect you, in one way or the other.
One of the finest examples that I own of how skilled manipulation of machines can and will provoke moods and or altered states of mind. Hard, loud and repugnant to compromises of any kind or sacrificeing its artistic speech in favor of wide spread appreciation.

This Record in my opinion was and remains a revolution in dance music.
I will allways remember the first time i've heard this in the shop
when it came out.
It contained a new soundscape that stunned me.
Jeff Mills re-invented Techno with this and set the pace
for all the hardcore Techno to come.
The mixture of highly distorded drum machine sounds and synths
with punchy and groovy rhythms created a new vision of techno and opened a door path to a whole new style.

Classical album - who doesn't know this? Even if I'm not big fan of pure techno, I have respect for this record - such tracks as "DNA", "The Hacker" and especially true materpiece - "Phase 4" always impresses me. Time flows, but really great works will never grow old - just like this one.

Jeff Mills' earliest solo work is captured here on Waveform Transmission, Vol. 1, an album that set new standards in 1992 for hard, punishing techno. Upon an initial listen, you're instantly overwhelmed by the intensity of Mills' barrage of pounding 909 kick drums and other sub-frequency rhythms, along with the breakneck pace at which he loops these rhythms. To top off the dense sub-rhythms and the nauseating intensity of these songs, he also adds some screeching hi-frequency riffs for an additional element of sonic assault. The album's highlight comes on "Changes of Life," a track that, perhaps intentionally, references Derrick May's "Strings of Life" with its use of traditional piano sounds. Rather than use the piano as a tool for generating melody as May had done on his classic, however, Mills uses it as a tool for generating rhythm. The piano notes bang just as hard as his punishing 909 kick drums, thereby using a traditionally harmonious instrument for ferocity. Mills doesn't get any harder than he does on this album, but even though his later work finds the fine balance between harsh industrial pounding and surreal tonal quality, you can't help but see how influential this particular album at its introduction was to the entire school of producers interested in the harsher extremes of the techno spectrum.

Brutal, mechanical, machine driven techno with a touches of warmth here and there ! Great in a dark, dirty club, with strobes and lazers matching the pace of the music...even the cover artwork is class by M.Bulgrin.
