CD liner notes (written in 1987) explain the subtraction of one original LP track (J.O.S.) and addition of 5 bonus tracks [1-5 on this release]:
"Tracks from these two sessions were intermingled to produce Smith's classic albums The Sermon (Blue Note 4011) and Houseparty (Blue Note 4002). In 1979, another album of material came out as Confirmation (Blue Note LT-992). And two additional titles were included on a Japanese Blue Note album entitled Special Guests. For the compact disc, these sessions have been unraveled and put into their approximate recording order. So the CD versions of these albums do not follow the same content or order of their vinyl counterparts."

Total running time: 71:00
While the front cover art includes a top banner text announcing "Stereo", no mention is made in the notes as to whether this disc includes stereo or mono mixes.
