Reviews & Discussion

Apparently acid house is back. Well considering Josh Wink and Hardfloor were using manic 303s well into the late 90s, it hardly went away. This is a very good CD from Mixmag. Some good tracks, especially Bam Bam, LFO and Green Velvet, all perfectly mixed by Jon Carter. This CD shows off his masterful abilities on the decks and its very very difficult to tell where a mix starts and ends which I feel is always a good sign because it then becomes one long track instead of a set of tracks. In the magazine it actually says that at one point there are 4 tracks bubbling away in the mix. I'm not sure where abouts but there are a few occasions when I can make out 3 tracks.

This short Acid Revival never sounded better as on this very mix. Jon Carter mixes up a lot of cool stuff in a perfect manner. Listening to this mix after 3 years after it's production is especially nice.
Jon grabbed some of the best Songs he could possibly find, such as the best Neo Acid Track "Superfreak" by Josh Wink (that lesser known Blakkat Mix), Underworlds "Cowgirl", a Tune by the Chemical Brothers, "Gendefekt" by the one and only Green Velvet, Bam Bam's classic "Where's Your Child" as the Start Track, LFO's FREAK in the middle. To top things off we hear HARDFLOOR's 'Acperience' at the end. That ain't Acid Revival though, but the real thing !
Anyway it wouldn't be a MIXMAG or Jon Carter Mix from 2003 if there wasn't the occasional cheesy tune such as Benny Bennnasy's 'Satisfaction' (one of Radio Slave's first remixes) or Tiga's 'Hot In Herre' - None of these damage this fine mix. Bangin' from start to finish - flawless mixing + entertaining trackselection. A GREAT CD FOR FREE !!!

One of the best cover CDs I got with Mixmag this is a great collection of old and new tracks with plenty of acid sounds amongst them. Jon Carter is not that great as an artist but as a DJ he is outstanding. Very nice mixing throughout the CD, with samples dropping in and out a lot of the time. It's mixed so well you would find it tricky to tell where one track ends and another starts.
