Josh Wink - Profound Sounds Vol. 2

This compilation is one of my all time favourite mix CDs. And mind you, I'm not a great fan of DJ compilations. Josh is one of my favourite DJs around and this mix features some of favourite producers such as Mr. G, David Alvarado, and Mr. Wink himself. Sure, it may be computer mixed and there are re-edited tracks but those factors don't really matter when you have such a wonderful listening experience as this. The mix can be divided into two parts. The first half grooves somewhere between moody, dark, and relaxed tech house and techno, but after Josh Wink's own 'Oakish' things really kick off. The latter part is faster. It's harder. It's techno. I don't want to say that I'd prefer either part – the whole mix is so brilliantly built that it really is a journey. I know that it's an overused term but in this case it really describes the wholeness. There are some weak selections as well. I never really liked 'What You Say Is More Than I Can Say' and UK Gold's track in the end is just somewhat weak. But those are just minor parts of the whole mix and I like the way that this mix ends with the 303 madness of Wink’s remix of 'The Compass'. This mix is some 74 minutes long but often feels longer than that – and in this case it's a very positive thing.
