'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is certainly Joy Division's finest moment and if you like their signature tune (although they would be loathed to be associated as making an anthem). But this is as quintessential a Manchester anthem as you can get. A song that moves youngsters today, who weren't even born when Ian Curtis penned these incredibly moving lyrics. Every time I hear this record I cannot help but feel an affection for my home town, even when it bloody rains!
