If you like your grown-up detroit, look no further - there's no room for any hard west coast detroit here! Juan Atkins mixes it up in true detroit raw style with a few subtle tricks such as mixing between two copies of the same tune every now and then, a must for the real enthusiast. 9/10.

Classic tunes mixed by one of Detroit's masters. Good mix capturing a diverse selection of tracks. Some standouts are "Nature of the Beast" by Black Noise, and the deep, dubby "7" by Maurizio. The range of tracks in this mix is rarely seen in dj mixes - as the selection ranges from minimal dubby techno, to disco, to funky house.

Atkins' mixing is a bit heavy-handed sometimes, but it is consistent with what you'd hear him play out in a club. The CD also suffers from having been recorded live from vinyl, and it sounds as if the needles they used on the decks weren't in the best condition. There's some serious level discrepancies between left & right depending on the track (and what deck they were played on I'm sure).

Nowadays, this release will only appeal to serious collectors and Detroit techno geeks - as its about as far from "hip" as you could get. But so many of the tracks in there still hold their own, and could be played to a packed floor with great results.

This is a brilliant mix, all these trax are timeless classics. I have spent many a day getting lost in the deep and hypnotic music that is late nineties Detroit techno. This mix is a big inspiration. I really miss hearing these trax being played out. Downside to the mix: do not count on any stellar mixes, or even locked beats at times....Juan is not known for his DJ prowess, however this is a must have nonetheless.

I really don't know what they were thinking when they released the vinyl as a mixed release - I was not aware of this when ordering the vinyl, thinking it'd be an easy way to get hold of several elusive classics...two thumbs down.

This is mixed vinyl, i.e the tracks are unseperated. No disrespect but it's fairly shoddily mixed too. Wonderful tracks but kind of unusable.
