Juliet Roberts Natural Thing ctcd39

1994 Reissue with 2 extra tracks.

A few of the tracks on this compilation sound really dated 15 years after their release in 1994. Both versions each of Caught In The Middle and Free Love have a cheesy faux gospel feel to them that hasn't stood the test of time. Acieed House is definitely dead! Roberts' vocals seems so disconnected from the morass of sounds occuring on these tracks that it's hard to believe she had any more to do with this than perform the vocals before handing the project over to someone else.

Fortunately, she really gets a chance to shine on the rest of the album which has a much more soulful essence and arrangements that are less complicated and all the richer for their use of real instruments and vocal harmonies. In particular September, Eyes Of A Child, Force Of Nature and the 1992 Courtney Pine track Life Goes Around are top drawer material.
