Formed by Scottish situationist Jimmy Cauty & former Echo And The Bunnymen manager Bill Drummond, back in the day, they recorded this masterpiece of soft-focus ambience.Behind a cover depicting a flock of sheep grazing in a field was a trippy mix of pastoral sounds,Elvis samples, african throat singers, preachers and,of course, bleating sheep.Inspired by the space cadet noodlings of Pink Floyd but filtered through post-1988 technological advances,'Chill Out'-and its semi-successor,the'Space'album-is still the ultimate comedown album.

this could be my favorite ambient album. so many memories; so many saturday and sunday mornings. and yet it's not quite ambient; not background music. very engaging. more of a journey, and yet never too intense; just chill. the ULTIMATE soundtrack to put on when you get home from a late night out; for the early dawn.

Recorded in one take at Trancentral in 1990, this album is a mixture of samples and new age/experimental contemporary music. Many elements from "Chill Out" were sampled from previous releases of The KLF, and then re-used again in the making of "The White Room" (their most popular opus). So you do recognize bits from "3 AM Eternal", "Last Train To Trancentral" and "Justified and Ancient" throughout this musical road trip.
My favorite moments on this CD are "Wichita Lineman..." and "Trancentral Lost In My Mind", later released in part as the "Pure Trance Original" mix of "Last Train To Trancentral". The sampled voices of a preacher and a radio host are melt together in a strong melodic segment.
"Elvis On The Radio..." samples a song from Elvis Presley, way back before Junkie XL with "A Little Less Conversation". Amazing "Hawaian" result! Hear for yourself!
Interesting and very moody; I recommend to everybody. Lie down, close your eyes, relax: Chill out.

This really is something a bit different -- more like a sound collage -- drifting through pastoral settings (with the ghosted voice of Elvis hovering over steel guitar). One of the better albums of this genre -- relaxing and dreamy. It reminds me somewhat of Thomas Koner's work, yet more upbeat. A very good late night album.

If you've heard other KLF records and they weren't your cup of tea please don't dismiss this one. It will really suprise you. A beautiful piece of work.

I`ve got a lot of records - on vinyl and on cd - this is one of the greatest releases I´ve ever heard! Use it for relaxing, for working late at night, by driving with earphones on a motorbike - it always works. Sorry, Cauty and Drummond have left the music business - a sequel is definitely needed. Buy it at once - if you can get it...

I own a white label of this record that has some Cheech & Chong samples at the end, with weird sounds in the background. Basically, the album ends, and then the spot from Up In Smoke where Chong gives Cheech acid appears.

A classic. When they say "Chill Out", they MEAN IT. The sounds of trains, sheep, pastors doing pitches. It all adds up to one hell of a mix. Sit back, grab a beer (Or whatever you prefer), and.... listen.
