A huge hit and deservedly so. 'What Time Is Love' had been floating around in one form or another for quite a while before it finally blazed its way into the public consciousness.

This record stands out by its seamless use of a variety of disparate samples and its use of acid which had already become unfashionable by the summer of 1990. It also showed early signs of hypnotic production that indeed was later dubbed as 'trance'.

In particular, watch out for the middle section where the track is stripped down to just the beats - possibly the most perfect House groove ever.

With this release the KLF finally broke cover, although they had a a long string of releases, and even a number 1 (as the Timelords - more like an anonymous 1-hit-wonder) prior to it. From here their whirlwind romance with pop superstardom and Top of the Pops began.

The anthemic chanting "mu-mu", forceful rapping, "wanna see you sweat" wailing and the hypnotic, slightly familiar (from a mainstream point of view) riff added up into a potent concoction that was both dancefloor and radio friendly, and paved the way for a string of moneyspinners for Bill and Jimmy.

The illuminati adepts of techno pop. The singer of the rock group MC5 John Sinclair (a left wing extremist and cityguerilla theoretic) shouts to his fans in 1969 "Right now its time to Kick out the Jams, motherfuckers" and KLF have sampled this shout. But Robert Anton Wilson writes in his Illuminati Triology that the Rock Group MC5 (2+3=5) was founded by the old illuminatis after the chisma in 1888 to remind of the failure of Cecil Rhodes. Cecil Rhodes founded the JAMMS (Justified Ancients of Mumu) to bring back the good forces to the illuminati, but has been kicked out of the right wing illuminati.
Also the KLF logo is a funny version of the illuminati pyramide with to phat speakers instead of a pyramide.
In no sense, Nonsense ????
