To me this is the record that started the Trance genre. Today the genre has of course mutated to something that makes you wonder if people listening to the stuff that goes under the name 'Vocal Trance' actually knows what the term 'Trance' means.
There's still music produced that you can easily trace back to the roots(this 12"), like some stuff on Joof, for example Oliver Prime.
I had a look at the current Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trance_music and they don't even mention this track. I wonder if the article on Christianity mentions Jesus?

Cauty & Drummond created a timeless (no pun intended) classic with this one. It can be seen as a prototype, a progenitor or even a milestone. Whatever you want to call it, it's that good. Due to the heavy exposure, caused by the 'over-remixing' by the boys themselves. Most people will know that melody, even if they aren't into dance music.

This release, more known as Pure Trance 1, has the beatversion and the beatless version. The beatless one which would be put on a Japanese 3cdsingle set and is the more available one. The original beatversion is the finest one of them all. There has been said so much about why this track is so magical but it just is.

This version of "What time is Love" is one of my favourite all time tunes. It is nothing like the dance version, it's stripped down the more familiar and obvious samples along with the beats; it is purely dubbed and tranced out. This track is a real drifter, gone to bed many times whilst listening to this. It still grabs me and in my opinion is the only real decent thing from The KLF. It also encapsulates a part of the whole feeling from around the late 80's early 90's, but without that annoying four four beat!
