Karma continues their bum rush of the downtempo world with MODIFICATIONS, a collection of remixes of and by them. The opening track, "Modifications Pt. 1," takes the sustained synths that mark their work and joins it with more of a jazzy sensibility than before. Jazzanova, the supergroup that can do no wrong, don't disappoint with their Africanized version of "High Priestess," while King Britt gives the same track some deep house flava. Their remixes are more house-oriented than their own work: the driving beat of Solar Moon System's "Solar Moon" and the Latin-tinged rhythms and guitar of Coldfeet's "In My Lucid Dreams" seems to free them to explore more club-friendly territory. Their mix of Megashira's "Falling Down," however, is more their speed. And the final track, "Modifications Pt. 2," has a spy-movie vibe to it, with a strong injection of funk. Karma keep developing, and each incarnation is better than the last.
