LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends

James Murphy is the mashup god, and has never been shy about appropriating his influences. But is takes a true master of psychological programming to lift riffs from New Order's Power Corruption and Lies (Age Of Consent) in the original and then somehow channel the music's ancestral DNA so strongly that your cover band rips the lead track (Love Vigilantes)from NO's next album so flawlessly that it could almost be a sample.

I'm guessing the boys from Franz Ferdinand were in nappies in 1985 when Low Life was released, or close to it, so how'd Murphy do it -- Contractual clause? Anyway, their version is nice.

John Cale's cut is even better and you can feel the maturity and stature in his vocal stylings. No Mark E Smith wannabee, his take is the real deal -- utterly Spine tingling with the cello.

I have played the hell out of this track in all it's incarnations and it still delivers.

This release is utter genius. Fact. Rather than get other artists to remix the track LCD got other artists to cover it and record their own versions. I intially bought it for the Franz Ferdinand version, but the John Cale take is on another level, it's very similar in sound to earlier Joy Division material like Atmosphere. Everything about it, the drums, keyboard and his vocals effortlessly take you back to the days of New Wave. I didn't think I'd ever hear any new material like this.
