Reviews & Discussion

Review by futuristlimited Jul 31, 2010 (edited about 1 year ago)
Claus has of late been writing some of the most introspective work in his entire career. Or maybe it is just more powerful emotionally. He is still the angry young man we all know him to be inside and a fearless political advocate. Leaetherstrip is not defined by boundaries and the music punches you in the damned face.
One thing you must always expect is something sexually motivated...freedom of mind and choice are his highest qualities in everything he does. If you doubt his ability to manipulate the punishing vision in his industrial style he will kick you sideways. That said there are some amazingly beautiful touches of early 80's
elegant industrial. Swear I heard some Mentallo & The Fixer mixed in with some DAF or even The Normal. Claus is very respectful of his influences and he dowses this record with tons of them without sacrificing LEAETHERSTRIP. The entire formula works and this may be one of the most fluid albums he has ever made next
to SOLITARY CONFINEMENT, his very best. Brief synopsis on some favorites: "My Shadow Is Your Home" is gorgeous. His fans are facebooking him like crazy on this one! "Invade My Body" will excite all the fans for it's brutal and real depiction of gay sexuality. "Your God Has Left You Tonight" throws the book at organized religion.
"Strobe Lights" attacks the mainstream autotuned out pop crap of today in an amazingly industrial oddity!
"We Build The Walls" and "Dead Soil" will cement in your memory - these are finite and fantastic songs! One song on the record, "Song for Pia" was not supposed to be included (even though it is in two versions) but Claus had written for a close friend and she insisted he release it. It is the first time I actually shed tears whilst listening to Leaetherstrip! Then he waxes poetic on "Abscido" it's so amazing. it wouldn't be a Claus record without some added hilarity that totally does not come off cheesy. I was so impressed with "The Bears Aren't Sleeping Tonight" (which is about the Bear Culture in Denmark), that I had to repeat it twice while driving! The box includes a 3rd cd with mixes - Usual fare, but the true gems are the originals. He worked hard on this and honestly Rudy Ratzinger...eat your heart out man...this guy was doing it before you and better.
