This is probably my favourite album of 2008. Mixing what I see as the delight cheesyness of Giorgio Moroder beats and arps with Tangerine Dream -like marimba samples, I think this epic album kind of wraps together everything I liked about cheesy italo/disco and other synthpop genres.
Some say the album lacks dynamics and organic feel. I do agreee at some points, but personally I think WYGIGT is one of the few albums of 2008 that has signs of a responsible mastering process. You can turn up the volume a bit without growing ear-fatigue, and that's always a good sign.
"Where Georgio goes so does Lindstrøm". At the end of a decade artists either break off and start building on new ground (as punk did in the 70's, and acid house in the 80's) or turn out a more polished version of the sound du jour. This album falls in the latter category. It is nice enough, three solid tracks of slowly evolving italo grooves, but there is nothing here that stands out in a crowded genre. At the end of the album I felt like I had been listening to a product demo for Native Instruments FM8. Next time I think you should go somewhere no-one has been before Lindstrøm.
