What an astounding record this is. What kind of music is this? Reggae, industrial, jazz, funk experimental, just plain crazy? So many of the tracks deliberately feature instruments playing in completely different keys. A good example is the bass and melodica on both '1-3' and 'Bleach It'. What is going on? And how do they manage to make it sound so good? I think partly because they are destroying the rules and laws of music that we (in the West) are so used to accepting. It is a very skillfully composed piece of music indeed. And the almost militaristic electric percussion along with Pete Holdsworth's harsh vocals on 'Motivation' are most definitely a precursor to the electronic body music/industrial sound of bands like Front 242 and a whole host of Belgian hardbeat producers that weren't to appear for another 5 years. Certainly ahead of it's time. In fact, to this day there's nothing really comparable to this band. Their style, in particular on this, their last record, was unique and this LP was the last step in their evolution towards the final sound they created. Previous LPs were more easily pigeon-holed - their influences were more obvious - funk, dub, post-punk, you name it. But this release escapes practically all musical boundaries. A masterpice about which words cannot say any more, nor do it justice. To say I very highly recommend it is an understatement. I'm utterly convinced that this little gem will enrich anyone's life. It is what orginal music should be like - pure and profound. As Goethe said: "Music is the highest form of art...because it is beyond meaning". Nuff said.
