Wow that is a harsh review, I have registered just to counteract it.

This cd is not a club cd and M . A . N . D . Y would almost certainly not play a set like this except maybe on a chillout terrace in ibiza etc. The is a album of electronic music and is more than just a minimal techno cd. The choon selection is diverse and electic which makes for a very enjoyable mix. The technical mixing is suburb and the whole cd and the 'at the controls' series is extemely good. Maybe you have to be musically educated to appreciate it.

If you like it you must listen to James Holden's copy. The first time i heard it i wasnt 100% sure but second time round convinced me of its greatness.

These albums represent the huge diversity in electronic dance and how it has become more that club music

If music was measured by a, let's call it that, yawn factor it possesses, then this double CD mixed compilation would make Public Enemy's nation of millions fall in eternal sleep.
Call me a fool, but I don't think I've made it through both of these CDs three times!
Just to make one thing here, it's not a genre/style issue, as I can listen to virtually any given form of electronic music, but this takes slopiness and nonsense to a whole new dimension. How dull can minimal get? The track selection wouldn't work as a good night theme to my four year old cousins, let alone for the after hours, or worse yet - a regular party. Hell, where I dwell while having the misfortune to be listening to this, most of these tunes come across as sadist intrusions inside my tortured ear drums. Allegedly, these guys are super stars who know their stuff, so I won't draw any stereotypic conclusions, but if I was to judge 'em by what they offer here, I wouldn't let them mop the floor in my club, if I was ever to have one.
To end on a relatively good note, this mix has two hot moments. The first comes as track six on CD 1, Collage by Alex Under, while the second is by now the widely known Who's Afraid Of Detroit by Claude Vonstroke, which has position #7 on the second disc. Both of these are spectacular tunes, and somehow pull this one out of the complete disaster area. I bought 12" from which these tracks have been taken and must admit I play them way more regularly than "At the controls". This was, from my own point of view, a complete miss. Sorry.
