Michael Kohlbecker, a god among men. The diversity of this man's catalog never ceases to amaze me. From Tronic, Eternal Basement, Montauk P, Saafi Brothers, to this release, there is never a dull moment to be found. Lush, complex, and mellow seem to be the most fitting words to describe this release. Heavy kicks and flowing pads take center stage here, while Kohlbecker's ever-apparent intensity is moved to the background, making close listenings extremely rewarding. Even a dose of his early 90's acid techno roots shine through in Harded. This is very enjoyable stuff. Breif vocal samples accent without over-powering, while a tastefully layered rhythm section keeps things locked tight. A chill track of minimally-epic proportion (clocking in at over 16min) with silky-smooth filters, tasteful acoustic guitar and a ffaatt subliminal kick, brings things to a beautiful close, making this an entirely rewarding listen. You must own this.
