Reviews & Discussion

Review by lukeperman Apr 01, 2012 (edited about 1 month ago)

referencing Soul Makossa, 7", Single, 45-2971

No review for this? Considered by some to be the first 'Disco' record. A tune most certainly played in David Mancuso's Loft in the early 70's - also considered to be the first ever Disco club. Whichever is true, the track certainly offers many of the elements of funk: a broken beat punctuated by brass and saxophone riffs, and would still sound great mixed into any jazz/funk/disco set.

The truth is probably less clear - in that many styles and influences from funk, jazz, soul and r&b contributed to the disco sound that dominated the 70's and early 80's.
