It's amusing, I have come across so many reviews of this EP (whether it be online, Mixmag, or the like) and they are all negative. "Techno Vocals" is obviously poking fun at the cliche's that are employed in a great deal of minimal tracks nowadays.. (including those by Marc Houle and the rest of the M_nus roster!!). Anyone who doesn't see that is clearly up their arse.
"Techno Vocals" is a fun tune to play out if you want to get some laughs from the crowd. Nothing groundbreaking, but thats the point!
Whilst normaly anxiously awaiting a new M_nus release, sniffing the brand new vinyl, having this uncontrolable hunger to penetrate the grooves with a record needle and letting the speakers blow the awesome power of the Minimal side through the roof I must say that I'm seriously disappointed in this one.
It begins with a patented M_nus deep kick as expected from a Marc Houle production and then it begins ;
Why are all the vocals pitched down so low ?
This is the way we make techno ?
Who wants to know ?
This sure as hell isn't techno let alone a good M_nus release.
I'm quite sure Hawtin could have chosen better tracks than this one to celebrate the 50th of M_nus.
I'm not saying Mr. Houle is a bad producer, the contrary is a fact if you look at his previous releases
So you can understand the disappointment in regards to this commercial wannabe 'I Love Techno' anthem !
Nuff said, up to better & bigger things Marc !
