As an ambient musician, Markus Guentner knows how to achieve bliss. On DOPPELGAENGER, he sets the listener adrift on layers and layers of sound. The tracks flow into one another in a sonorous drift, so it's difficult to comment on one track or another, but listen to the vinyl-like crackles on "Das Haus Steht Leer" or the tiny squeaks of feedback in "Flimmerfrequenz" for proof of his careful musicianship. A mellow beat comes in on "Dreiglanz" and "Meer Der Luegen" but the other tracks remain beatless, though not without their own rhythms. A beautiful, dreamy piece work.
